Good morning LLOPS members,
It is my pleasure to announce that the LLOPS Board has approved the creation of the LLOPS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Erin Rance, Manager of Compliance and Legal Affairs for the
Office of Public Records and Open Public Meetings at University of Washington will serve as the Committee’s Chair. Erin is joined on the committee by myself and member Charlotte Daugherty from the Chapman University Law Library.
Information about the committee will be posted on the LLOPS website. If you are interested in joining the committee or serving as Co-Chair, please reach out to Erin to let her know your availability.
In the meantime, there are events promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion this month through UW Law and AALL:
UW Law’s upcoming Diversity Week – February 21 – 24, 2023:
The event will offer the chance to:
- View “Hidden Truths” the national award-winning American History Traveling Museum.
- Hear from a panel of former judicial law clerks.
- Be part of a Diversity Celebration.
- View the movie “Who We Are, A Chronicle of Racism in America”.
On February 22, 2023 (1 pm-2 pm EST), the AALL Black Law Librarians Special Interest Section (BLL-SIS) and the Foreign, Comparative and International Law Special Interest Section (FCIL-SIS) are hosting the first webinar in a series of FCIL-SIS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion webinars on international events that may impact FCIL-SIS and the wider AALL membership: What in the World…is Happening in Haiti? This webinar, moderated by Lyonette Louis-Jacques, Foreign and International Law Librarian at the D’Angelo Law Library, University of Chicago Law School, will feature a panel of experts who will focus on the history of Haiti, the current situation, what the future may be, and a view of this issue from a librarian’s perspective (i.e. finding resources relative to Haiti).

I really look forward to working with this committee.
