LLOPS Call for Nominations 2020-2021 Executive Board

The Nominations Committee is seeking candidates for the upcoming LLOPS Executive Board election.

The 2020- 2021 Nominations Committee is composed of chair Barbara Engstrom (King County Law Library) and Jonathan Franklin (UW Law School). Per the LLOPS Bylaws, the committee represents at least 2 types of law libraries.  We would love to have a law firm member as well, let me know if you’d like to join us.

We are currently recruiting candidates for the positions of Vice-President/President Elect and Secretary.  The duties of these positions can be found in the Chapter Manual on http://llops.org/

You many nominate yourself or a colleague you believe would be an asset to the chapter.  We highly encourage self-nominations.  Serving on the executive board of a professional organization such as LLOPS is a fantastic way to gain executive management experience that might not otherwise be available in your organization. It is a great way to fill leadership gaps in your resume.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 6 at 5pm.

Feel free to contact me with questions,

Barbara

Guest Speaker Opportunity at the iSchool

During Spring Quarter at the University of Washington Information School, there will be a course available for MLIS students to take called Instructional and Traning Strategies for Information Professionals (LIS 560). This course is designed to help students develop” knowledge and skills in instruction while applying theories of information literacy, teaching, and learning to instruction in an information environment. [It] teaches students how to design, develop, and evaluate instructional programs for specific users.” Throughout the quarter, this course will host several guest speakers who have instruction and training experience within a librarian framework.

We have reached out to the instructor, Trent Hill, and asked if he was interested in having a law librarian come to and talk to the class. He was more than thrilled about this opportunity. Although this class is for the general MLIS program, it would be nice to have them exposed to law librarianship.

We are looking for a LLOPS member who has legal research instructional experience and is willing to come to share their experience with this group of future librarians! Come and speak to the class about your instructional experience and recommendations on how to build instructional lessons/curriculums.

If you are interested or would like more details, please contact your LLOPS iSchool Liaisons, Pearl (pearlm@uw.edu) or Marissa (rydzew@uw.edu).

Thank you!
