Grants Committee Report

The 2010-2011 LLOPS Grants Committee, with members Jan Lawrence and Bridget Dacres and Dawn Kendrick Gibb, Chair, awarded grants to three members during the year.

The budget for the 2010-2011 year was $1,500, slightly more than we enjoyed the previous year. We were able to support members who wished to take advantage of significant professional development opportunities.

In January, 2011, the committee awarded $285 to Kim Ositis (Reference Services Librarian, Public Law Library of King County) so she could attend DrupalCon 2011 in Chicago from March 7-10.  Kim learned basic as well as more advanced features of Drupal, the open-source content management system which will power the new PLLKC website.

In March, Erin Hoffrance (Assistant for Research & Information Services, Keller Rohrback LLP) received a $75.00 grant to attend the LLOPS Spring Professional Development Workshop, The Ideas of March.

The largest award of the Spring/Summer grant cycle, $1,190, went to Crystal Sherman Norton (Director of Library Services, Riddell Williams P.S.) in support of her attendance at the July, 2011 AALL Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. As Vice-President/President-Elect of LLOPS, Crystal has several commitments at the Annual Meeting, including chapter leadership training. The Grants Committee was pleased to be able to award substantive support to Crystal this year.

The Grants Committee observes that the number of grant applications in 2010-2011 was low. This was something of a surprise in a “down economy”. The committee encourages active LLOPS members to apply for financial support for relevant programming and hopes to be able to consider a larger number of applications in the coming year.

It was a pleasure to award funding to the individuals named in this 2010-2011 report.

Respectfully submitted,

Dawn Kendrick Gibb, LLOPS Grants Chair

Bridget Dacres
