President’s Message

The investiture of new LLOPS officers means summer can’t be too far off now. Spring was big for Government Relations. Special congratulations to Tina Ching, Lori Fossum, Kris Henderson and Kay Newman for their special efforts in completing the Washington State Legal Inventory. Spring also brought passage of HB 1479 to promote authentication and continued publication of primary legal materials, and the committee’s coordinated effort with AALL Government Relations to avoid death-knell reductions to State Law Library funding (thanks to all who contacted legislators). Though safe for now, the Library (and LLOPS) will have to make do without Dawn Kendrick Gibbs, who is stepping down for quality time with her grandchild.

Spring programs featured Jack Hamman’s soon to be released documentary (with a Tim Sheehy cameo) on Tacoma’s Union Station and its new life as a Western District courthouse. The Program Committee’s office management series also wrapped in May with LLOPS Treasurer and Chapter Visitor Susan Lewis joining Bridget Dacres to discuss office politics.

We also had good numbers for our evening of repacking food at the University District Food Bank. Thanks to Shireen Daboo, Bridget Dacres, Amy Eaton, Dianne George, Kris Henderson, Barbara Holt, Kristine Lloyd, Brenna Louzin & Susan Schulkin who ran out of work long before enthusiasm. Jan Lawrence will likely be looking for Farestart or Teen Feed volunteers come August or September. The Board welcomes your suggestions for other good works to bring LLOPS members together.
