The Grants Committee has been authorized by the LLOPS Board to award up to $1,500 in grants for educational opportunities available during the current LLOPS year (July 2010 – June 2011). We will have two application cycles, the first for fall and winter programs, the second for spring and summer events. You must be a current LLOPS member to apply.

The LLOPS Grants Committee is pleased to announce three grants ($75.00 each) are available for the LLOPS Professional Development Workshop. Completed applications should be sent to the Grants Committee by February 15, 2011. The LLOPS Workshop is Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Seattle University School of Law. We are also able to offer two Early Bird registrations for the 2011 AALL Annual Meeting – Philadelphia. Your application is due to the LLOPS Grants Committee by May 6, 2011.

Preference will be given to LLOPS members who have not received a grant in the last 3 years and who have actively contributed to the Law Librarians of Puget Sound.

The Grants Committee (Jan Lawrence, Bridget Dacres and me) are hoping for an enthusiastic response to these new grants so we can continue to offer them to you.

Grants Committee Report

The 2009-2010 LLOPS Grants Committee, consisting of Jan Lawrence, Bridget Dacres and Dawn Kendrick Gibb, had the privilege of awarding grants this year to LLOPS members who work hard for the chapter.

With our 2009-2010 budget of $1,000, we stretched it as far as we were allowed and awarded $1,020 so some active members could take advantage of significant professional development opportunities.

Kristine Lloyd (K&L Gates LLP) was awarded the fall grant ($500.00) to attend the AALL Leadership Academy in Illinois. The spring 2010 grant ($75.00) went to Brenna Louzin for attendance at the LLOPS Professional Development Workshop, April 29, 2010. And the final grant money ($445.00) went to Jennifer Hill (Keller Rohrback LLP) for registration to attend the 2010 AALL Annual Meeting in Denver. Jill Allyn (Garvey Schubert Barer) was awarded the AALL Chapter Award ($445) to attend the 2010 AALL Annual Meeting.

Jan, Bridget and I thoroughly enjoy our committee’s role in awarding grants. We look forward to reviewing the 2010-2011 applications and awarding well-deserved funding.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dawn Kendrick Gibb, LLOPS Grants Chair; Committee Members, Bridget Dacres, Jan Lawrence

Was I Leading Again?

dance

by Kristine Lloyd

More than one dance partner has accused me of “leading” when, according to the laws of nature and jive, I’m supposed to be following. The end result is a lot of knee-bumping, toe-stomping and if you’re really unlucky, crash collisions on the dance floor. I wondered if my occasional forays into leadership could be described about the same way. A few weekends ago, I headed off to the AALL Leadership Academy to find out.
